The Martin County Sheriff's Office already has a presence at the local public schools, but on Tuesday, they had an open discussion with facilities in the county with the goal of eventually getting lockdown and active shooter training under their belts.
About a dozen preschool leaders from around Martin County were able to ask questions and get resources like the standard school response protocol under the I Love U Guys Foundation that the school district also uses.

Part of the standard response protocol the district currently uses that preschools will learn from includes an emergency operations plan, training resources, how to handle communication, lockdown drills and police tactical responses.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says teachers at preschools should always think about reporting suspicious behavior, finding ways to safely lock and block doors in classrooms, and looking at access points.
Leaders with the department say day cares run from home, for example, should also be on police radars so that they can be notified in the case of an emergency, like if a pursuit happens down the street.
